We've had some exciting lessons over the past two days as both sides elected their captains and selected the teams to contest the Great Media Debate 2006. In the lists that follow you'll see the captains of each team in each debate highlighted in red, followed by the rest of their team (with researchers/subs in brackets). Here they are...

It promises to be a superb battle, not least because of the strength of the teams. Did you know, for instance that every single captain got a grade A for their AS? And, also, I was really impressed at how focussed and on-task both sides were when they got together in their groups on Thursday and Friday. You are taking this seriously, which is great - the harder you work now, the more chance you have of winning and the more you learn for your coursework/exams.

lol honestly sir, u give people a little bit of competition and they turn nasty.. can i just say, "c-squad" seem very defensive, when there is really no need, both classes are very capable, no one is denying that and im sure it will be a tough debate, no1 thinks your not good enough for us :S who even said that? Its a debate people, its a clever way of mr bush and mr munro making us go over stuff that we need to learn for exam, look at it from two perspectives, to improve our analytical skills.. so every1 reli wins at the end of the day :) Sir i know you enjoy watching people get bare worked up about this!!

A captain is a key player in any team and it is necessary for them to be present for a team to function to its full potential. Otherwise, what's the point of having a captain? He or she "leads and guides others" - not very easy to do if you're not there!
Try telling any sports team that they can operate without one. "Yeah, we don't need you to wear the captain's armband today John (Terry) or Thierry (Henry), in fact, don't even bother turning up, cos your contribution is so irrelevant that anyone else can make up for it."
What demoralises a team most is lack of leadership.

yea but rajan was there and he was the overall captin, so its not as if the team didnt have a leadership figure, im pretty sure the captins just sat there through the meeting and listened to what the teachers had to say, and rajan passed on the info 2 me like any good captin would, ur right, all teams need their captin but our leadership skills come into play when we actually come to organising and preparing for the deabte, leaders dont know it all sir and they can learn from others to... its not the end of the world, this is just a debate our lives dont revolve around it
For the women debate team NONE of the debaters were there! That is a serious issue - there is no getting around it.

Just because some people care about something, doesnt mean that every1 else around them cares about the same thing, we are all different, u cant be going around tellin people what they care abt and what they dont. Honestly 13D are not as bothered as 13C are and u can tell that from the amount of preperation gone into the debate, well good on 13C u will most probably win and prehaps u sld as well seeing as u want it the most.Personally either way i dont care (and no thats not a lie), its my bday the next day and dats all im excited about this week,all i cared abt was sir tryna make me look bad. Can't believe it's all over!! Well done to all those who particpated and just wanna say thanks to 13C for embracing the values of team work because without that we would have been a mess! Nevertheless, i was genuinely surprised with the way everyone spoke- so confidently and passionately i really didnt expect the standard 2 be so high!
I also wanted to say thanks to my class for turning up and working so hard in our extra sessions to actually write the speeches and practice them. Every person in my team researched their topics extensively which was evident in the speeches.
But yeh.. congrats 2 everyone especially to those who were brave enough to debate: ur all winners within ur own right!

a few problems that Sir u can take into account for next year
1. maybe u shud give a list of key terms to the year 12's so they ACTUALLY KNOW wat we are on about lol so that they wont vote simply because of peers.

It was an excellent debate...I actually really enjoyed It. Shows how hard work does pay off in the end. All the time spent preparing and practicing the speeches was really worth it. We Did Adam Proud!
