Cover Work (13D)

Mr Munro will be in to register you today (Thursday 25th January). Then you will need to do the following...

A. Reflect on last week's exam

Post up at least a one paragraph comment here about the Module 1 re-sit last week. Cover the following...

  • Was it easier or harder than expected?
  • Why?
  • What key points did you make?
  • Were you able to include any of the Year 13 (Med 4, 5 or 6) stuff you've covered and if so what?
  • Did you do enough preparation?
B. Self evaluation

Carry out a self-evaluation in advance of your next set of Interim Reports (that we are writing at the moment). You can get the headings here. Then post up your responses on your Med 6 blog.

C. Complete late homework

Make sure you have completed the homework that was set for you before the holiday. This was the minimum of three exam practices, posted up on your Med 6 blog. It was intended, in the first instance, to help you prepare for the re-sit but it is also vital practice for the Module 6 exam too.

Unfortunately, only Raspreet, Harveen, Kavita, Ramneet, Rajan (kind of ) and Furzana have done the work. Well done - and credits - to them. The rest of you had better get this work completed by next Thursday (Feb 1st) or you'll be staying late after school to do it. You have been warned!

Was it easier or harder than expected?

I found it ok lol

Why?

...i mean i would of prefered moving text, but this was ok.

What key points did you make?

Image based - main person is being hung upside down ? relates to the title "The great escape"for someone whos so confident in the kitchin being tied up, shocks us.

The two different cultures integrating... theres alot i said really.

Were you able to include any of the Year 13 (Med 4, 5 or 6) stuff you've covered and if so what?

Was it easier or harder than expected?

I found it much harder than last years exam but it was aite.

Why?

I thought that a print text would have been much more easier to analyse, however i found the exam much more harder than last years exam. This was becasue a moving image text had much more analysis to talk about.

What key points did you make?

The image of jamie oliver being hung upside down-this links to the title of the "great escape".

The use of celebrity endorsement being used in the advertisment- he is a well knowm tv chef and the audience might aspire to be like this.

The use of lighting on his face emphasises his facial expressions.

The whole atmosphere makes the audience think-enigmas-"why is he hung upside down?"..etc...This would want to make the audience watch the show as this is the main purpose of an advert.

Thats all i can think of. i cant remember the rest:D

Were you able to include any of the Year 13 (Med 4, 5 or 6) stuff you've covered and if so what?

ermm yea i included the uses and gratifications theroy(how the audience have personal identification with a celebrity etc...) and some other theories.

Did you do enough preparation?

well overall i did prepare for the exam but i duno if i made the right points as i found the text more difficult and challenging to analyse.

Harveen.

I found the exam harder than previous ones that we have done before. I was ok.

Why?
I would have rather done a magazine front cover or a newspaper article sonce i know more about that than jamie oliver.

What key points did you make?
To be honest, didnt even know it was jamie oliver, didnt even look like him, Dont know what u was thinking. Just wrote about 'The great excape', the kichen, Italy and the culture differences.

Were you able to include any of the Year 13 (Med 4, 5 or 6) stuff you've covered and if so what?

Was it easier or harder than expected?

Once i got into analysing it i found it not too bad.

Why?

at first, when i saw it i was in shock because i expected it to be a tabloid front cover. Also because it was just one image and hardly any text.

What key points did you make?

The image anchoring the meaning of the title- in a very literal way, the kitchen, Italy, and a lot of other things that i can't remember.

Were you able to include any of the Year 13 (Med 4, 5 or 6) stuff you've covered and if so what?

I included the Uses and gratifications theory, patricarchy.

Did you do enough preparation?

I think i did prepare as much as i could have- practse exam questions and riving over the med1 notes from last year.

The first glance of the picture in the exam I was like this is going to be a long 75 minutes of my life; but as I got into it with the 15 min plan I find it ok and made points that I was quite impressed with.

What key points did you make?
The points I made was firstly about the title "The greate escape", if people didnt know bout Jamie Oliver they could have thought this was a drama about escaping, which goes with himself being tied up.

I also mentioned about how the male and female roles have changed. Females in the past were more domesticated, whereas the male were the dominant ones being the breadwinner. Now males are more interested in the domestic side of life including cooking. Role reversal basically.

The poster gives us enigmas about "why is he hanging there?", "Is he trying to escape?"

Celebrity endorsement - Jamie Oliver, people wanting to aspire to be like him. A chef.

Italians being known for their good cooking.

Where you able to include any of the year 13 (med 4, 5 or 6) stufff you've covered and if so what.

I talked about some theorists and like gratification - how audiences have a personal identification with celebrities.

Did you do you enough prepation?

Yes I did, but I done them on paper. No not an excuse because you're not gonna have a computer in the exam. It makes it more helpful to practice on paper in order to give yourself sufficient time in the exam.

Was it easier or harder than expected?

it wasnt too hard

Why?

it was a print text, so everything was more or less in front of you

What key points did you make?

I spoke about the way Italy was being represented, 'The Great Escape'...

Erm can't really remember all my points but i did ake quite a few..

Were you able to include any of the Year 13 (Med 4, 5 or 6) stuff you've covered and if so what?

I tried to talk a little bit about context..

Did you do enough preparation?

i tried to do what i could, i didn't necessarily think you could really prepare for an exam like this as your unaware of what the text is going to be
